Nurse
Instructor: Mrs. Boldig, RN
  Hello,
My name is Gail Boldig, RN,  and I am the Hornets' School Nurse.  I have been a  Registered Nurse since 1981. I have a  hospital nursing background, specifically, in the Emergency Room.  This is my 8th year as the School Nurse for Hartwood Elementary.

My goal is to have healthy students who are better learners.

Clinic Visits

The clinic is open during school hours to students who may have health needs such as medication/treatment administration, first aid, and need illness evaluation.

The nurse also does routine screening for vision, hearing and scoliosis. The nurse is a resource for students, families and staff for health information.

In addition,  the nurse is involved with the special education eligibility process and is involved with teaching and training for staff and students on various health topics as they apply to the school setting.

The School Nurse is able to take vital signs, check ears and throats, provide first aid for injury,  and give symptomatic relief of illnesses with the following items:

Alcohol wipes, Bactine, antibiotic ointment, first-aid cream, Chloraseptic throat spray, isotonic eyewash, Anbesol gel, hydrogen peroxide, Calamine lotion, band-aids, paper tape, Vaseline, hand lotion, saline contact solution, clear anti-itch gel, and vinyl gloves.

Please be sure to update the office staff with your latest emergency contact information.  The nurse will use her discretion as to when it is necessary to call a parent or other listed contact.  The students may rest on cots for a brief period but,  the best place to be when not feeling well is in the comfort of their own homes.
